They are really notes, so if anything is unclear, ask and I can elaborate. I know that some of the thoughts are leaning toward the basic side of things, but there is a reason for everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luke 15:11-32 &#8220;The Prodigal Son&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We know the key\nelements of the story. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A man had 2 sons<ol><li>The younger son wanted the gifts of his\ninheritance <\/li><\/ol><ol><li>The younger son gets the inheritance and\nsquanders it<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>A famine hits<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>The younger son remembers how his father\u2019s\nservants were provided for. <\/li><\/ol><ol><li>He gets to his father and declares that he is no\nlonger worthy to be called son (the only thing he did right haha)<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>He asks to be as a hired slave<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>\u2014-(Missing the father completely.)<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>They have a feast<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>Older son won\u2019t go in<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>Father pleads with older son<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>Older son complains about being obedient but not\ngetting anything (notice the contempt, \u201cI want to have a fatted calf or\nsomething to make merry with HIS friends<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>Father tells older son that younger son was once\ndead but now is alive.<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s interesting to\nsee how both miss the true inheritance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The younger son\n(The Lost) missed several things in his \u201cwake up\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>He was performance based and gifts based.<ol><li>He saw that the workers were taken care of and\nwas thinking from a place of guilt in squandering his gifts of inheritance<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>He was willing to settle for fewer gifts but\ndidn\u2019t see the bigger picture.<ol><li>He had envy based on the gifts<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>I wonder if he saw the\nbigger picture in his father\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The father willingly gave him his portion<ol><li>The father didn\u2019t try to control or demand\nanything when the son left since he gave him the inheritance<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>The father covered the sons shame and took it on\nby running to him<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>The father didn\u2019t acknowledge the son\u2019s speech so\nmuch, but began a feast in his honor<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>He willingly restores the younger son<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The older son (Self\nRighteous) also missed things<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>He was superficial<ol><li>He reveled in his obedience and was also\nperformance based<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>He felt that his obedience demanded some reward<ol><li>His reward that he was looking for was for\nhimself and his friends, rather than with his father<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>He had contempt based on his obedience<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>What I think they\nboth missed of the father was that the father felt that the inheritance Was\nneither from the gifts or the obedience. The inheritance was the value of the\nrelationship with him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We know from\nScripture that Christ\u2019s inheritance has a number of facets, such as all\nauthority being given to Him, but the one that is missed is to be seated at the\nright hand of the Father. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John 10:30 I and\nthe father are one<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John 5:19, the son does\nnothing unless he sees the father doing it. It implies not only obedience, but\nloving relationship<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proverbs 7:1 \u201cMy\nson, keep my words and treasure my commandments within you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The whole books of Proverbs points to the fact that the true inheritance is relationship and wisdom. <ul><li>This is why my friend, Terisa\u2019s word on sonship (spoken at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lhcfwarren.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"LHCFWarren (opens in a new tab)\">LHCFWarren<\/a>) is so important (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"CLICK HERE TO LISTEN (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lhcfwarren.com\/sermons\/god-our-father\/\" target=\"_blank\">CLICK HERE TO LISTEN<\/a>)<\/li><li>It is why I have preached sonship for so long.<\/li><li>Sonship, not the gifts, nor the actions, is the basis of, and the reward in Christ.<ul><li>From true sonship healing happens<\/li><li>From understanding what it means to be a son comes knowing the Father\u2019s love<\/li><li>From sonship a real desire to please Him happens<\/li><li>From sonship, a sharing of the Father\u2019s blessings happens<\/li><li>From sonship comes an understanding of the freedom of certain behaviors, and not a contempt due to works<\/li><li>From sonship comes an understanding of grace. <\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I could go on and\non about unity in the church. I could go on and on about judging about sin and\nsuperficiality. I could go on and on about fake holiness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I could go on about\ngenerational issues and cite Malachi 4:6 \u201cHe will turn the hearts of the\nfathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers,\nlest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Interesting to note that there is a response on\nthat if we don\u2019t get unity generationally\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These are my notes from a recent message with our discipleship group.
